Island of Rab

Otok Rab
is part of the Kvarner Bay archipelago in the Adriatic Sea. In addition to the town of the same name, there are 7 other towns on the island (Barbat, Banjol, Palit, Kampor, Mundanije, Supetarska Draga and Lopar). The island has around 10,000 inhabitants who are mainly involved in tourism, fishing and agriculture. Due to the Mediterranean climate with pleasant warm summers and mild winters, the island is home to many plant and animal species.
– A turbulent history, various historical eras from prehistoric times to the present day have left their traces in many castles, buildings, coats of arms and churches.
– Widely known for its lush vegetation, clear sea, beautiful beaches, and millennial culture, Rab has long been an ideal place for a vacation.
– In 1936, the English King Edward VIII visited it, who received permission from the city authorities to swim naked in a cove in Rab, thus entering the history of naturism on Rab.
Lopar
Lopar is a picturesque place in the northwestern part of the island of Rab, about which we find the first written information in the works of ancient writers. The place is known for its beautiful beaches, with 22 of them, three of which are nudist (Ciganka, Sahara, Stolac). The entire northern part of the Lopar peninsula is a protected landscape due to its special features, geomorphological characteristics and historical remains.
The clear sea, mild climate and God-given beauty make it a favorite summer resort.

Rab Town
A typical medieval urban center with four imposing bell towers. A former Roman settlement that was granted city status and declared a municipium by Emperor Octavian Augustus in 10 BC, it ranks among the oldest towns on the Adriatic. The town is characterized by three longitudinal streets (upper, middle and lower) that are interconnected by several smaller cross streets. In this part there are a number of valuable historical monuments of the church and secular life of the town throughout history. One of the most important Rab monuments is the church of St. Mary from the 12th century, built in the Romanesque style as a three-nave basilica with three apses. The church choir attracts special attention and is built of chestnut wood, the work of local craftsmen. The independent bell tower of St. Mary with its composition represents the most beautiful example of such a creation in our area, which together with the oldest Rab bell tower of the church of St. Andrew, the youngest church bell tower of the church of St. Justina and the bell tower of St. John the Evangelist form a recognizable image of Rab.
One of the most valuable monuments of Rab is the Prince’s Palace (a group of palaces dominated by a tower with beautiful windows from the late Gothic and Renaissance periods). In the town of Rab itself, there are a number of valuable portals, balconies, beautiful windows, and significant inscriptions from different eras whose beauty will not leave anyone indifferent.
